Bright Horizon Children’s Home – Children's aide on the Roof of the World

Near the idyllic village of Matatirtha (Mother Earth) outside of Kathmandu you can find the Bright Horizon Children’s Home (BHCH). It provides a secure home to approximately 200 children between 5 and 19 years of age. Most of them are orphans or half orphans, and come from very poor communities.

Many are from the geographically disadvantaged regions of Nepal. At the Children's Home, they live together with their caretakers in a family-like environment and receive a good school education. The internal school also provides an education to about 70 additional children from the local area. At the moment, 45 children in two classes are being supported at local colleges.

Bright Horizon Children’s Home e.V. is managed by: Ronald Gerns (Chairman), lawyer and notary in Frankfurt am Main, and his wife, Dr. med. Gabriele Dilla-Gerns (Board Member), internist, who are both very fond of Nepal. Dr. Harald Witte (Board Member) is an "actively" retired international banker, who knows and loves Nepal and the Himalayas after many years of hiking tours. Ruth Reintges-Menzel (Board Member) is a retired banker. Marlies Kornfeld (Board Member), Bern, Switzerland, is the founder of the Children's Home.

The home’s successful work is built upon the volunteer work of members, and it has delivered concrete results: children living in utter poverty find a safe home at the BHCH and have access to an education that gives them the opportunity to live a fulfilling and independent life.

This encouraging outlook fills us with joy and motivation to continue and intensify our work in the immediate future. And we can look forward to a positive future, as the next generation is already getting active. Raksha Gerns – the daughter of Ronald Gerns (Chairman) and his wife Dr. Gabriele Dilla-Gerns – maintains close contact with the children at the BHCH and actively supports the organisation’s work with her dedication and ideas.
